Port Stephens, March 20-22, 2020
Robert, Brandi and John are back & Swing Escape is returning to the bay!
The dates and the stars have aligned again to allow us to secure a fantastic ballroom at a magic location, one beach around from Shoal Bay, Port Stephens!
We are also super-excited to have the new New Format Ultimate Intensive on Friday with Robert and Brandi. This year this amazing learning experience includes two hours with Robert focussing on musicality, and two hours with Brandi targeting quality of movement. The remaining 3.5 hours, Robert and Brandi together, will cover the essentials, including new material, new angles and new drills to help develop a deeper understanding (cognitively and body-wise) of essential advance fundamentals that help dancers of all levels grow.
Our professional development series this year will comprise of two seminars, now 90 minutes in duration due to popular demand;
Teaching (1.5 hours) and
All-star & professionals’ critique (1.5 hours).
Plenty of great stuff to look forward too!
Why Not Make the Most of the Trip!?
Newcastle Airport is only 30 minutes away from the Nelson Bay venue and surrounding accomodation. Bus transfers are available from airport. There are buses from Sydney too and a train to Newcastle and bus to Nelson Bay is also an option. It is best to fly in to Newcastle where possible. There is one road in and one road out, so lifts may be able to be arranged from Newcastle and or Newcastle Airport, given some notice.
For the wine-lovers, we suggest a small detour to the beautiful Hunter Valley wineries. There are lots of amazing vineyards and wonderful eateries. There is also a brewery/winery on the way up the bay at Murrays Brewery if you are keen for beer or wine tasting or a tasty meal.
Thursday Night Cruise!
Once you are at The Bay, before the serious learning and dancing fun starts, let’s kick off the event by getting together with fellow dancers on a twilight dinner cruise on the magnificent Port Stephens’ waterway!
Last year was fantastic, such a good way to relax and ease into Swing Escape in style.
Our private chartered cruise will depart Thursday night 6:30pm – please arrive at 6:15pm. This departure time will allow more daylight time to take in the beautiful scenery.
More About Swing Escape 2020
The location details are available via this link.
As well as the bonus of enjoying the beautiful area, we are sure you will thoroughly enjoy, be challenged and significantly progress your dancing through attending the awesome workshops taught by world class West Coast Swing teaching legends: Robert Royston, Brandi Tobias and John Lindo. What amazing synergy they had in 2019. Can’t wait to see what’s in store in 2020!
John and Justin are back on deck as DJs, and JP is joining them. The team is sure to keep the dance floor pumping!
World Swing Dance Accreditation
Swing Escape again offers World Swing Dance Council Jack n Jill competitions.
The weekend’s focus is on friendliness, a relaxed supportive vibe, and social fun. As well as Jack n Jills, you can enjoy other fun events that make your experience extra social and inclusive, including;
Your Swing Escape Lucky Dip
(Dance with a pro)
$15 entry – all fees returned as prize money.
….and of course, our Friday dance card!
Our extra social Friday dance card event provides a super-high energy start to the weekend and gives all dancers a chance to break the ice and to win some great prizes. This year we will feature a DJ’s top 30 dance card. Whilst we had record numbers last year the large venue and 400 plus square metres of dance floor provided ample space during this peak time.
Because we don’t run strictly or a classic divisions our format allows for lots of social dancing fun that starts at reasonable times so you get to enjoy it more.
This year we also have two dance spaces to utilise, allowing us to strategically schedule and balance learning (type and amount), social dancing, and chill time.
Your Swing Escape Culture
The culture aims to welcome a wide range of ages and levels. There is something for everyone. Swing Escape prides itself in encouraging mutual support and inspiration. Each year we recognise and reward the latter, by presenting a peer-voted Community Spirit Award.
We look forward to the supportive positive vibe continuing in 2020, and in turn, maintaining the symbiotic relationship that is vital for our community to stay alive and thrive.
Your Chilled Feel
Of course, our bean bags are back, and the hammocks! This all helps add to our laid back feel, and allows you to chill and recover in the ballroom with your friends and new acquaintances.
Your Event Venue
Your Swing Escape ballroom is our most spacious and functional yet: a beautiful space with two distinct areas, and room to chill on the hammocks and bean bags. The venue has its own dance floor and it allows us to roll out our full 300 square metres of our floor.
You won’t realise it, but your busy legs will appreciate our purpose built, high quality sprung-feel dance floor, which will quietly aid in your dance recovery.
The club offers a variety of dining options, barista coffee and a gelato bar.
There are restaurants nearby including this gem, Little Beach Boathouse (5 min walk)- a must for a quite cocktail or tasty lunch/dinner.
Dancing goes until 2:00am Friday (leave premises by 2:30am) and 2:00am Saturday (leave premises by 2:30m) and midnight Sunday (downstairs is open until around 2.00am).
Participants have access to a full size coach that can drop them back to their accomodation at 2:30am, and other times, if needed, for example, if wet weather occurs.
As you can see we have an amazing weekend in store. We look forward to seeing you and appreciate your ongoing support.
Why Not Extend Your Stay?
Don’t forget to put your leave applications in early! You do not want to miss the cruise or the intensive and perhaps a recovery day or two after? We can’t talk highly enough about the bay area, it is truly a brilliant place to chill, even if there wasn’t any dancing on. I know I will be there for a few extra days this time!
The synergy of all of the ingredients above is sure to work a treat.
We sincerely hope you can be part of Swing Escape in 2020.
A refreshing, fun weekend, fine tuned and offering the ultimate learning experience at a magic sea-side location!
