What is Modern Jive?

Modern Jive, in a nutshell, is simple social partner dancing that is versatile, practical and fun. It is danced to music that you are likely to hear at pubs, clubs, parties, weddings and other social events as well as older favourites.

A typical danceVibe modern jive night is just as much about the social fun aspect, as is it is about learning to dance!

As we say, its much more than dance lessons, its a great night out!

Modern Jive is one of the easiest of all partner dances to learn and you don’t need to bring a partner. If you can walk you can dance Modern Jive!

Call in any week (no need to commit to multi-week courses).

$30 3-week 1st timers pass.

$17 per casual visit.

A fun, great value, night out, where you meet an interesting mix of people from all walks of life, while getting fit accidentally!

A little bit more about Modern Jive

One of Modern Jive’s key strengths is it’s versatility. Whilst Modern Jive is flexible and open to influence from other dance styles, it is a style unto itself. It’s essence or basic rhythms have not changed, but the styling of the dance is in a state of perpetual evolution. It can be adapted to music of the day, so just as music changes, today’s Modern Jive is very different to 14 years ago!

Some of the more common dance types included in the style descriptions for Modern Jive are; are for example, a mix of French Jive, Latin, Rock’n’Roll, Salsa and Swing. Whilst Modern Jive draws moves and patterns from all these styles, it is distinct from them all. To understand the essence of today’s Modern Jive and appreciate what a wonderful, fun and adaptable freestyle dance it is, you really need to jump in try it and see it in action! Just a reminder, we cater to beginner’s every week.

You are welcome any Wednesday. Casual cool clothing is recommended. Shoes with some give on the bottom are best (suede or leather). Ladies avoid slip ons! But on your first night where whatever you have that is comfortable.
